All Cub Scouts learn the basics of scouting in the first meeting or two. These basics include the sign, motto, salute, handshake, as well as the Scout Oath and Law.
Scout Oath:
On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the scout law: To help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scout Law:
A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.
These basics will follow the scouts throughout their lives, and comprise the fundamental elements that we expect of all scouts. We know these are challenging to live up to, but we know that we will always 'do our best'!
