Before your shift
Sign up for a storefront shift in the Trail’s End app
Make sure your Scout has a Trail’s End account
Scouts wear Class A uniforms
Charge your phone and bring water/snacks to your shift
If you have the first shift, arrange to pick up popcorn and supplies
If you have the last shift, plan to return popcorn and supplies
Arrive about 10 - 15 minutes early to your scheduled shift
Class A uniform
Water and snacks
Charged phone with App installed
During your shift
Fill out an inventory sheet to track shift inventory, sales, and donations
Record EVERY sale in Trail’s End, including cash sales
Keep cash sales and cash donations separate until the end of the shift
Scouts should greet customers politely as they exit the store
Do not block doors, enter the parking lot, chase customers, run, yell, or play
Follow store manager instructions for setup
Remember: Follow the scout oath and law!
Shift Accountability Sheet
At the end of EVERY shift
Carefully count popcorn inventory and record amounts
Incoming and outgoing adults should verify the counts
Leave the storefront clean and organized!
Count cash from sales and donations...record both on accountability sheet
Complete the Shift Accountability Sheet and sign (highly recommend taking a photo with your phone for your records)
Place the accountability sheet, cash donations**, and cash from sales (if not converted to credit***) in provided envelops
Seal the envelope and write scout name(s), storefront location, date, and time on the front...leave the sealed envelope in the cash box, which will be returned to popcorn kernel by the parent working the final shift
**Pack donations cashless option: If you prefer, you may take the pack cash donations with you, but Zelle the full amount to pack3006treasurer@gmail.com within 24 hours and email the pack treasurer and popcorn kernel(s) for our records
⭐ Reward Points Tip
***Converting 'cash to credit' at the end of your shift gives the Scouts additional Trail’s End reward points (highly recommended!).
How it works: Select convert cash in the app, enter amount, tap your credit card to charge amount and keep the cash from sales.
Each Scout needs their own account, including siblings.
Parents can:
Use the same email address for multiple Scout accounts
Switch between Scouts using the account/name menu
Use one device during a storefront shift
In the Trail’s End app:
Storefronts → Select Date → Select Location → Select Shift → Sign Up
Popcorn sales are automatically divided among the Scouts signed up for that storefront shift.
2. What to Bring
Class A uniform
Water
Positive attitude
Sales pitch
Charged phone
Trail’s End app
Portable battery charger (if needed)
Water/snacks
Chair, if desired
The Pack provides:
Popcorn to sell
Table
Table banner
Cash box
Donation container
Product information
Accountability sheets
Recruitment flyers
Other sales supplies
3. Arriving & Setting Up
Arrive about 15 minutes early
Check in with the store manager
Ask where they want the table
Set up near the designated exit
Make sure you do not block entrances or exits
Count your starting popcorn inventory
Confirm starting petty cash
Complete the starting section of the accountability sheet
Scouts in front → Popcorn/table → Parents behind
That keeps the Scouts interacting with customers while adults manage payments and inventory as needed.
4. How to Make a Sale
Option 1 (short): “Would you like to support Cub Scouts?”
Option 2 (medium): "Would you like to support my scounting adventures?"
Option 3 (longer): "Hello! My name is ______. Would you like to support my scouting adventures?"
Customer Scenarios:
Customer: “I don't have cash.”
Scout: “No problem — we take credit cards!”
Customer: “I’ll get you on the way out.”
Scout: “Thank you!”
Cusotmer: “No thanks.”
Scout: “Have a great day!”
Cusotmer: “Can I just donate?”
Scout: “Yes!...Thank you for supporting Scouts!”
5. Recording Sales in Trail’s End
For each sale:
Start Sale → Add Products → Checkout → Cash / Credit → Offer customer digital receipt
Record:
Cash sales
Credit/debit sales
Electronic payments
Donations as applicable
The guide also notes that Apple Pay, Google Pay and Cash App may be handled through the customer-device checkout option.
Highly recommend converting eligible cash sales to credit/electronic sales at the end of the shift (when possible) because this can increase Trail’s End reward points from 1× to 1.25×. This also helps the popcorn kernel(s) by having less cash for them to count and keep track of.
6. Donations
Keep donations separate from popcorn-sale cash.
Record them based on the donor's intent (if stated).
Pack donations (cash only option)
Heroes & Helpers donations (can be credit-card or cash)
Credit-card donations must be entered as Heroes & Helpers in the trails-end app. No pack credit card donation option. (Can turn in the cash, or Zelle the amount to pack3006treasurer@gmail.com and keep the cash).
